Simon Johannas DE JONG

Simon De Jong passed away peacefully on August 16, 2004 at Ebenezer Home, with his family by his side.

Born Sept. 5, 1926 in Zoeterwoude, Holland, he immigrated to Canada with his bride, Mennie, in 1954. Settling first in Powell River, BC, where Simon worked for MacMillan Bloedell. In 1966 he realized his dream of owning a dairy farm and moved his young family to Marion Road in Sumas Prairie where he farmed for 25 years. Simon was a great gardener, he enjoyed traveling, bowling and visiting and loved to share his bountiful produce and good times with his many friends and family.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Mennie; his children Margaret (Murray), Jerry (Brenda), Corinne (Bruce), Glenn (Cecilia). ‘Opa’ will be lovingly remembered by is grandchildren, Leah, Kari (Luke), Amber, Ryan and Colin, sister Riet Van Dieman and brother Jacques De Jong in Holland, many sisters-in-law and brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Ebenezer Home. So that others can continue to receive their care and support, donations in Simon’s memory, will be gratefully accepted by Ebenezer Home, 33433 Marshall Rd., Abbotsford, V2S 1K8. A family funeral mass was held on Friday, August 20th at St. Ann’s Church with interment at Musselwhite Cemetery. A memorial celebrating Simon’s life will be held at a later date, when Mennie has recovered from heart surgery.
