Shirley WEBB

December 1, 2012

Shirley Mae Webb. Born Sept. 17, 1931 in Nakusp, to Brian and Sadie Thompson, passed away December 1, 2012 in Vernon. Predeceased by her sister Roberta DePaoli in 1988, and husband Reg Webb in 2005, she is survived by her children Murray (Leanne) and Donna and her grandchildren Michael, Gordon (Chelsea), Lindsey, and George. Mom spent her school years in the East Kootneys, where her father was the school principal in Kaslo during the war. She enjoyed a year at Emily Carr School of Art in the 1950's before becoming a psychiatric nurse, marrying, and having children. She never lost her love of art and painting, and in mid life she earned her Fine Arts degree through the Fraser Valley College and spent some years after that teaching in a studio that Reg built for her. Reg and Shirl moved from Abbotsford to Vernon in 1994. Mom was very impressed by the Fine Arts in the community, enjoying everything from Powerhouse and the Art Gallery to Creative Chaos. Those that knew Mom best will tell ou that her home was always pet-centered, she was a great cook, and you never had to wonder what she was thinking. She loved her family and friends and strove to keep in touch. As Mom's declining health made her increasingly housebound, she embraced email and spent many happy hours on her computer, sharing laughs and writing notes. Cards and letters were very important, and she derived great pleasure from hand making cards for special occasions. At Mom's request, there will be no service. Donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
