It is with great sadness that the family announces the loss of Serena Ewen, who died suddenly on Friday, January 6, 2006 at the age of 75 in MSA Hospital, Abbotsford, BC. Her husband Edward, children & grandchildren were at her side when she passed away peacefully. Serena was born on December 10, 1930 on a farm in Quinton, Saskatchewan. She was the sixth of eleven children born to John and Julianna Siska. The family moved to Abbotsford in 1936 when Serena was 5 years old. She blossomed into a wonderful, giving person, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her first husband Anthony Zomar, her mother and father, two sets of parent's in-laws, brother Joseph Siska, and grandson, Sterling Ewen, predeceased her. Serena is survived by her loving and caring husband Edward of 48 years, sons: Colin (Eileen), Trevor (Maria), daughter: Sirena (Denis), son: David (Sandy), daughter: Elizabeth (Arthur), sons: Gregory (Paula), James, Kerry (Carmen). Serena had 15 grand children, 8 great grand children, sister: Margaret (Carmen), brother: Andrew, sisters: Yolanda (Fred), Maggie (Al), Martha (George), Mary (Ed), brother: Michael (Heather). Many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Serena was a giver of life, and had a heart as large as the heavens. Her family was the most important thing in life to her; she loved her work at the drug store, enjoyed bowling with the girls, going camping and fishing with her loved ones. She traveled to several countries. England the most enjoyable where she visited her son and family; Serena even visited Hungary, the homeland of her parents.
Serena was much loved by her family and friends. We will always remember her beautiful smiles, twinkling eyes, energetic laugh and giving heart. Prayers will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Ave., Abbotsford, B.C. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006 with interment at Hazelwood Cemetery on Hazelwood, Abbotsford, B.C. Celebrant Fr. Robert Wong. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at MSA Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
