Sean Graeme O’Brien was born on St. Patricks Day in Killaloe, Ireland in 1922 and died on Sunday, April 23, 2006 in Mission, BC. As a boy he had a busy life, delivering papers, farming and working in brickyards in his summers. During this time he learned how to Âhandle explosives. He learned classical piano and made an honourÂable appearance at Carnegie Hall. Sean played hockey and was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs and you will find his name on the Stanley Cup for 1938. At 16 years of age he joined the Boy Soldiers and was soon moved to Regular Service (1938) and remained in the Royal Canadian Engineers for 34 years. He joined the 1st Canadian Parachute Btn. (keeping his Engineer Status) and was retired as a Master Warrant Officer. Sean often joked that if he had known their main job was jumping from airplanes and clearing land mines, he might have had second thoughts about the job. He had taken up drafting in school and followed that course into his retirement. He was one of few people who proudly wore both an M.M. and an M.C. This fascinating man was very Âspecial and much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
