January 23, 1928 - September 25, 2018
Ruby Wiebe (nee Derksen) passed away peacefully on the morning of September 25, 2018 at the age of 90.

Ruby was born in Provost, AB on January 23, 1928 and was soon adopted into the family of John and Helena Derksen, who lived and farmed in Borden, SK. She had a very happy childhood, along with her beloved sister, Helen, and enjoyed farm life, especially the animals. During her teenage years, the family bought a farm in Abbotsford and split their time between their two homes. She joined South Abbotsford MB Church and attended Bible School, where she met her future husband of 66 years, George Wiebe. They married on March 1, 1952 and built a life for themselves in Vancouver. They welcomed two sons, Lavern and Roger, into their loving home and raised them first in East Vancouver and then in Burnaby. Ruby was a stay-at-home mother and took great pleasure in being there for her sons. She loved spending time with her large extended family and knew everyone's birthdate from memory.

Ruby and George were charter members of Willingdon MB Church in Burnaby and enjoyed contributing many hours of service to it, especially in the Sunday School and Music programs. Upon retirement, George and Ruby moved to Abbotsford and joined Central Heights MB Church. In Abbotsford, she volunteered for many years at the MCC Thrift Store and found the work very satisfying. Ruby was an accomplished pianist and played for the Senior Choir that George directed. Ruby was also very artistic and spent many hours drawing and painting.

In 2016, George and Ruby moved into independent living at Primrose Gardens, where they enjoyed the fellowship and company of many longtime friends, as well as new ones. Ruby enjoyed playing the piano after the noon meal at Primrose, while fellow residents listened and sang along.

Ruby will be so fondly remembered for her kindness, generous spirit and sense of humour. She is survived by her two sons, Lavern (Ellen) and Roger (Adam), her sister Helen, members of her birth family and her extended family.

There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 1:30 pm in Nikkel Hall at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Road, Abbotsford with a reception to follow.
