David Roy Lind

Roy Lind, 73, of Abbotsford passed away on Friday June 17, 2016 at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission. Roy was born on September 19, 1943 to David and Evelyn (Mitchell) Lind in Abbotsford. He is survived by his wife Diane (Bakken), son Sean, sister Joyce Fraser (Bob) and 4 nephews. Roy is predeceased by his father Dave, mother Evelyn, sister and brother-in-law Lois and Arnie Montgomery, and nephew Allan Perritt. Roy graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1963 and soon set off on an around the world trip with Ed Fossen. In 1967 he began a long career in community newspapers, starting in advertising sales at the Abbotsford News, the next year as sales manager for the Chilliwack Progress, and in 1979, its publisher. He was publisher of a number of newspapers across the Lower Mainland, including the Chilliwack Progress, Hope Standard, Maple Ridge News and Tri-City News. Roy retired in 1999 as Vice President Sales & Marketing of Black Press. Community and volunteering was always an important part of Roy's life. Roy had been a Freemason and Shriner, member of Hole in the Wall, Abbotsford Curling Club, Swan-e-Set Golf Club and a Rotarian. He had served as chairman of Golden Ears Care Society, Valley Haven Rest Home, and Meadowridge School; a founding director of the Chilliwack Foundation; and had been a board member of Advertising Standards Canada and the Kinsmen Foundation of BC. A Celebration of Life is planned for Thursday, June 30 (2:00 - 5:00 pm) at the Abbotsford Best Western Regency Inn (32110 Marshall Road). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Christine Morrison Hospice or another seniors focused organization in your community.
