HORSTING - "Rose" Marta. On Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 our lovely mom, "Rose" Marta Horsting (Venturin) passed away peacefully at the age of 88 with her family by her side. Rose was born in the "Delair" house in Abbotsford and was raised on a farm in Clayburn, BC. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ted Horsting in 1939 (pre-deceased in 1991) and began raising their family. Not only did they raise 6 children but they were pioneers who cleared their land using horses. They eventually developed teamwork into one of the most famous fruit and vegetable farms in the Fraser Valley. Rose and Ted were known for their strawberries, raspberries, sour cherry orchard, and they were the first to grow broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts commercially. Rose will especially be remembered by her generous nature, her great flair with cooking and feeding many family, friends, and farm workers, her love and enjoyment with young children, her bowling achievements, photography, love of music, many ceramics and her creative talent that she has passed on to many of her family members. She will be sadly missed by her children; Margaret, Mark, Ted Jr. (Donna), Patricia (Karl), Corinne (Rolf), and Teresa; her 14 grandchildren; her 12 great grandchildren; her sisters Adele and Olympia, and many other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a warm thank you to all the nurses and staff in Baker 2, Dr. Winner, and Dr. Gill; as well as all her beloved friends and staff at Hallmark on the Park. A very special thanks from our family to Betty-Lou Dietz; to whom we will be forever grateful for her kindness, friendship and loyalty to our mom. An informal family gathering will be held on Sunday, May 9th to celebrate her colourful life from 1pm - 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations should be forwarded to Children's Hospital, "Be A Super Hero" foundation.
