After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Robert passed away at the home he loved and surrounded by the family that loved him. Robbie was born with a zest for life. He described his childhood in the Fraser Valley as "idyllic". He was able to roam, explore and just enjoy being a child. After graduation from Abbotsford Senior High he joined BC Hydro and remained with them until transferring to the Gas Division. He spent his working life in the Abbotsford area and Powell River - where he started his family - then back to the Fraser Valley until retirement. Robert's passions were family and sports (especially hockey), and most often they intersected. He was at every event for his children and for his grandsons, being supportive and helpful. You could always hear him cheering avidly from the stands. He loved life - always the first at any gathering and the last to leave, willing to try new things and go new places, always there with help and advice. Robert was the eldest child of Herbert & Elsie Gillberg with two sisters Donna and Linda. He was predeceased by his father Herbert and is survived by his loving companion Verna, his mother Elsie and his daughter Lisa (Terry) Mellett and grandson Scott, his son Matthew (Gina) Gillberg and his grandsons Ryan and Adam, sister Donna (Ernie) Morrelli and nephew Bradley and sister Linda (Milt) Pearson and his nephew Marty (Jennie) Pearson and niece Mindy (Vic) Gratwicke. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life. A life filled with passion and joy. Saturday, May 5th, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at his home in Parksville, 1417 Gabriola Drive (Craig Bay). In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society would be appreciated.
