René Forcier, late of Abbotsford, BC, passed away on March 3, 2015 at 1:00 am at the age of 92 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. He is survived by: his wife of 73 years, Mary, his family Lloyd (Monica), Gerry (Sandy), David (Pat), Mike (Jayne), Monica Dickson (Malcolm), Ken (Kelli), Rita Allen (Joel), 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, as well as extended family and friends. René was predeceased by his granddaughter Kirsten Stazyk and 9 brothers and sisters. René was the last surviving member of his family and his wife Mary, the last of her 10 member family. Throughout his 93 years René loved life, telling stories and jokes and “chatting” with everyone! René had a wonderfully contagious sense of humour! And he cherished times with his large, and still growing, family. Family and friends remember RVing at numerous places in Canada and the US, camping and BBQing at Black Mountain Ranch, enjoying “pig roasts” at Rita and Joel’s, and relaxing with a fishing rod in his aluminum boat. When reminded that certain foods would impact his heart condition, he replied, “If you can’t eat what you love, what’s the point of living!” Boating with the kids, enjoying Thanksgiving dinners, and playing “Balderdash” are fond memories from the Heffley Lake cabin. Almost 40 years ago, in 1977, René joined a small group of family members at the State Park in Oroville, Washington, for the May holiday weekend – the beginning of an annual “pilgrimage” with the entire family to this Okanogan hotspot. The whole family continues to enjoy this Forcier Family Reunion every May long weekend. What a legacy! But it will continue long after his passing! Up until a few months ago René and Mary played “Bridge” at “Friendship House” in Abbotsford. This became a highlight of their week and they even tried to teach some family members the game. René, with Mary, and their family, lived a long and happy life in Surrey and then in Abbotsford, until his passing last Tuesday morning. Mass will be held on Monday, March 9 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Ave., Abbotsford, BC, with Father Hien Nguyen celebrant.
