Peter Warmerdam

May 13, 1927 - January 3, 2025

Peter Warmerdam passed away peacefully, with family by his side in Aldergrove on January 3, 2025 at age 97.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 64 years, Elisabeth (Betty), 8 children: Christine, Ellen (Bert), Linda (Larry), Gordon (Lynne), Margaret (Auguste), John, Nick (Elena) and Dorothy (Lud), 21 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his first wife Margaret and grandson William Browne. Peter was the eldest of 8 children born to John and Christina Warmerdam in Sassenheim, Netherlands. On his 21st birthday, he married Margaret. They immigrated to Canada in May of 1948, arriving in Quebec City after a 6 day voyage on the Tabinta. Winnipeg was their destination and in the following spring they made their way to Bradner, with the help of Bill Vanderzalm Sr.

After several moves, they settled in Aldergrove. During this time they had 5 children together before Margaret's passing. Somehow, with help from family and friends, Peter found his way through this difficult time and was able to find love and happiness again. On December 10, 1960 he married Elisabeth and together they added 3 more children to the family.

Over the years, Peter's enthusiasm and hard work paid off and he became a successful bulb grower and producer of cut flowers in Sumas Prairie where he eventually enjoyed his retirement spending time gardening, playing cards and keeping an eye on the farm. He took pride in his work and was proud to be Canadian. In 2019, he had the honour of having a tulip named after him called Peter's Legacy. In January 2018, Peter made his last move to a Condo in Abbotsford where he enjoyed Betty's company and loving care.

Peter was a good, wise, fair minded, generous family man with a great sense of humour. We are so proud of our beloved husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa. He will always hold a special place in our hearts and will be dearly missed.

Prayers will be held on Tuesday, January 14th at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church 33333 Mayfair Ave, Abbotsford, B.C
