PETER MARTENS
It is with great sorrow that Peter passed away on July 3, 2009 at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC at the age of 81 after a very short battle with cancer. Peter was born in Alexander, Manitoba on March 7, 1928 to Peter and Elizabeth (Kroeker) Martens.
During his early 20's he went to Winkler Bible school for one year, but found he needed to be on the farm. In 1958 he came to BC, this is where he met Shirley Bradbeer. They were married, November of the same year in the Alliance Church in Vancouver. In 1959 they moved back to Alexander, Manitoba for three years. During this time they had a daughter, Janet. Two years later there was a house fire on the farm and then moved back to BC and settled in Surrey for 17 years. Pete retired in 1980 from Burnaby Parks Board where he was a machine operator. In 1982 he followed his dream and relocated to Langley on a five acre farm where we resided for 24 years. In 2006 they moved to Abbotsford and began attending Bakerview MB Church where they became members. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Shirley and will be sadly missed by his daughter, Janet (Syd), and granddaughters, Jenna, Alison and Rachel. He is predeceased by sisters, Lilian, Margaret and Alvina. Survived by sister, Kaye (Jake) Krueger of Brandon, Manitoba. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Bakerview MB Church 2285 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford, BC. Donations may be made in Peter's memory to the BC Cancer Foundation.
