Peter K FRIESEN

January 17, 2005

Peter K. Friesen passed away January 17, 2005 with loving family at his side.

Peter was born April 7, 1915 in Beaver Flat, Sask., the 7th of 13 children born to Cornelius W. and Katherina (Klassen) Friesen. Growing up during the Depression, Peter's unbridled love of horses began at an early age, as the family automobile was converted into a 4 wheel buggy and all farming was done with a team of horses. He went on to work as a cowboy alongside his brothers, specializing in training “outlaw” horses. Peter married Anna Wohlgemuth on January 16, 1936. After moving from Sask to BC and back several times Peter settled his family in Sardis, BC where they owned and operated a dairy farm from 1963 to 1988. All his life, Dad's true passion was horses. He was active with many equine organizations, including the BC Horse Council, the BC Pinto Assn. and the Chilliwack Riding Club, where he became an honourary member. His hobby of manufacturing and repairing harness and tack, plus his special gift of matching the right horse to a prospective rider brought a steady stream of visitors into his home, workshop and barns. Always willing to share his expertise, he will be remembered for his quick wit and endless horse stories.

Predeceased by his granddaughter, Darcia Louise Ling in 1983, Peter is survived by Anna, his loving wife of 69 years, sons Bob (Val), Dale (Iris), Stan (Sheila), daughter Carol (Ross) Blatchford, sons Peter (Jan), Al (Darlene), Wayne (Lyde), Wilf (Laura), daughter Jacquie, grandchildren Frank, Pat, Debbie, Julie, Angie, Shelly, April, Carmen, Lauren, Kris, Jason, Sean, Shannon, Ryan, Maren, Dalen, Breton, Robin and 18 great grandchildren. Peter also leaves siblings Helen Dyck, Susie Carlson, and Leonard (Edna) Friesen. Special thanks to the caring staff at the Menno Hospital. Dad's outgoing personality and generous spirit enriched many lives.
