Peter Henry

Feb. 4, 1924 - Oct. 4, 2006

Peter passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Oct. 4, 2006. Dad is survived by his loving wife Joyce, of 45 years, his two children, Mark (Elaine), Sheila Patschke (Jason Loewen) and his beloved grandchildren Danielle and Liam with whom he had a special bond. Dad grew up in Arnaud, Manitoba but moved to BC as a young man. Dad settled in the Aldergrove/Abbotsford area in the early 1960s and drove truck for Royal City Foods for 28 years. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Aldergrove for over 25 years. He retired at the age of 50 when Mark and Sheila were just five and four years old. During this time they lived on 40 acres in the south Bradner area. Family life was important to Dad, Mom and the kids were very involved in the daily operations of their property. Special memories include Dad cutting 70 cords of wood each year, building utility trailers out of truck boxes and scouting the valley for the next project vehicle. Dad loved to build bon fires and the kids have many memories of wiener roasts and good times spent outdoors.

Dad was also great at building things, his workmanship was impeccable and he was very proud of all his building projects. One of his last projects was a playhouse for the grandkids. He built it out of free wood from the old coffin factory in Yarrow. Dad's motto was the cheaper the cost to build the better the project.

Dad was a good and loyal husband to Mom and appreciated all of her help when he needed more care. Dad had a great sense of humour and kept Mom laughing during their 45 years together.

Special thanks to Dr. Froese, Dr. Cyr, Janet and the wonderful caring nurses and staff at MSA Hospital, too numerous to mention, who all cared for Dad over the years.

There will not be a formal service. Those who knew Dad are welcome to attend an open house in his honour, Sunday, Oct. 15. Please contact Mark Klassen for more details.
