Patricia Hope James


Patricia Hope James (nee Bell) passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2017 at the age of 95. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters Candice (Doug) Chappell and Nancy Arcand; four grandchildren Dustin, Serena, Kimberly (Steve) and Travis; great grandchildren Peyton and Lucas. She was predeceased by her first husband Alan Jupp, second husband Douglas James and her brother Tom Bell. She was born in 1921 in Briercrest, SK. At the age of 10 she moved to Surrey, BC. During the 2nd World War she became one of the first women to work at the Boeing aircraft company as a riveter. She met her husband to be Alan Jupp at Boeing and they were married in 1944. Shortly after her marriage they moved to Summerside, PEI where Alan was stationed as an Air Force pilot. Following the war they returned to Surrey, BC. This was where she raised her two daughters. In 1979 she moved to Victoria, BC and in 1980 married Douglas James. In 1990 she built her beloved house in Mission, BC and upon its completion she moved there, where she lived on her own until her 95th birthday. Throughout her life Patricia was a tireless volunteer with organizations such as, Meals on Wheels, BC Power Squadron, Hospital Auxiliaries, and the Clark Theater Ushers. She was also instrumental in helping to sponsor young people towards musical careers which was one of her life’s loves, Dixieland Jazz, through the BC Dixieland Jazz Society. She could dance with the best of them at her many Dixieland Jazz Festivals. The family wishes to express our heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers of the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission. Their compassionate care and understanding made a difficult time bearable and we will be forever grateful! A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home 7386 Horne Street Mission, BC on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mission Hospice Society.
