SAWATSKY, Nita (nee Enns)

September 28, 1920 - April 26, 2009

Nita peacefully passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on April 26, 2009 at the Menno Hospital. She was born in Fuerstenwerder, Southern Russia and together with her family immigrated to Canada in 1925. The family settled first in Coaldale, Alberta where Nita completed the first four years of school and then moved to Abbotsford area where Nita completed grades five and six. Nita was a wartime bride when she married Ike Sawatsky on July 11, 1942. After the war they moved to an acreage in the Aldergrove area where they raised their family of four children. Although she began to lose her eyesight in her forties, she tried to continue doing the activities that she enjoyed. This included travelling and camping with her husband, Ike. She was pre-deceased by Ike in 2006 and is survived by her four children: Ron (Edna) Sawatsky, Ed (Elaine) Sawatsky, Ruth ( Brian) Dyck and Bob (Colleen) Sawatsky, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Betty Klassen and Helen Braun, 2 sisters-in-law: Anne Thiessen and Alice Sawatsky, brother-in-law Vern Friesen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 30 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Rd. Abbotsford. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 1 at 11:00 a.m. in Clearbrook MB Church, 2719 Clearbrook Rd. Abbotsford, preceded by burial at Maclure Rd. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (C.N.I.B.) The family would like to thank the staff of the Menno Hospital for all of their dedicated care of Nita.
