BRADLEY (Gomuwka); Nellie

1918 ~ 2016

Nellie (Nastasia) Bradley was born in Edmonton, Alberta on June 7th, 1918. She passed away on April 22, 2016 in Abbotsford, BC. The daughter of Harry and Anna Gomuwka, Nellie was ninth of ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Randy (Molly) and grandson Ben of Mission, BC, her sister Lillian Platten of St. Albert, Alberta, her lifelong friend Effie Higgins of White Rock, BC and by many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and abroad. Growing up on a farm, Nellie learned to develop self-reliance, self-discipline and compassion for others through a life of hard work and a rich family experience. Her upbringing helped to nurture her creative imagination and fostered a sense of play-fulness, optimism and happiness that lasted her entire life. Nellie loved athletics, music and above all dance. Amongst her many attributes, Nellie will be remembered for her quiet courage, her warmth towards others, her wonderful sense of humor and her disarming smile. If asked for advice for living such a long life, she would respond:

Follow your passion.

Be kind to others, especially to those less fortunate.

Lead a generous life: it is far better to give than receive.

Pay close attention to the small things in life - they will bring you the most happiness.

Song and dance can help you through the darkest of hours.

Always walk on the sunny side.

Nellie Bradley spent the last year of her life at Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, BC. Her family would like to thank all those who knew her there and who were responsible for her wonderful care. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to a charity of your choice or to the Menno Foundation in Abbotsford, BC. Nellie loved nature and especially loved trees. A lasting tribute to her memory would be made if a seedling were planted in her memory in some location where it may flourish and grow unthreatened for years to come. A Celebration of Life will be held during the summer. Further notice of location and time will be sent out.
