February 3, 1937 - July 30, 2021
Murriel Jeannette Thompson (née Coty), 84, of Abbotsford, British Columbia, died peacefully on July 30, 2021.
"Birdie" will be dearly missed by her son Coty and daughter-in-law Mora (née Farncombe), granddaughter Jeannette, great grandson Stephen Coty Clark, sister Marion Tew, nieces and nephews, and circle of caring friends. Daughter of the late Marie (née Penner) and Philip Coty, she was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) and sister Donna Gipman.
Born in Penticton and raised in Summerland and Grand Forks, Murriel worked for Imperial Oil for more than two decades until she found an enduring passion for creating and teaching ceramic art. She loved being with family and friends, competing and judging at ceramics shows, and touring by RV with Bill.
Murriel saw beauty everywhere and captured it in her ceramic art. Her quirky sense of humour, wonderful story telling, creative gifts, and ability to teach and inspire others will be sorely missed.
Murriel's family is extremely grateful to her devoted friends and neighbours who supported her determination to remain in her home after Bill's death and through declining health. Thanks as well to the compassionate staff at Holmberg House Hospice who made Murriel's final days as comfortable as possible.
In keeping with Murriel's wishes, there will be no funeral. Loved ones and friends are asked to remember her fondly and in their prayers.
