Mr. David “Dave” Patrick Scanlan, late of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on January 28, 2008 at the age of 84 at MSA Hospital.

Dave was born in 1923 in Glasgow, Scotland to Irish parents. He was raised in Scotland and spent much time vacationing in Northern Ireland. After serving in the Royal Air Force he attended Glasgow University. Dave taught high school in Glasgow until moving to Abbotsford in 1959 where he taught at Abbotsford Senior Secondary until retirement. Dave was an avid soccer fan, loved playing bridge, watching movies and was especially fond of music.

Dave is survived by his four sons: Frank (Barb), David, Stephen (Suzanne), and Paul; one daughter Patricia (Mark) and their ­mother Mary Scanlan. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Marshall, Sean, Jessie, Megan and Nicole.

He was predeceased by his four brothers, one sisters and grandson Daniel Scanlan.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford. A reception will ­follow at the Eagle’s Lodge, 33868 Essendene Avenue, Abbotsford.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Froese and the staff at MSA Hospital for their kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Abbotsford Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
