Mildred Evelyn Worth passed away on December 20, 2006, at Menno Home in Abbotsford, at the age of 86 years.
Mildred was predeceased by her parents Vivian (1977) and Russell (1969) Cook, her brother Robert Cook (1935), her former husband Harry Carter (1972) and her husband Robert Worth (1987).
Mildred is lovingly remembered by her sons Herb (recently deceased wife Patt), and Bill (Lorie) Carter; grandchildren Cal (Shelley) Carter, Rhonda (Norm) Tapp, Chris and Lisa Carter; 5 great grandÂchildren, and friend, Venetta Alloway.
Mildred's mother, Vivian (nee Breaux), was born in Lafayette Louisiana, in the heart of Cajun country, on her grandfather's old cotton plantation. The family is known in that area for the famous Breaux bridge.
Mildred was born during a snow storm in Shamrock, Saskatchewan, and moved to Vancouver at the age of 5. As a child she moved many times and for a short period resided in Carencre, Louisiana, where she reunited with her many relatives of the Breaux family. Further moves meant attending 9 more schools before enrolling in Aldergrove School in 1931, and later, Mountain View High School near Stanford University in California.
In 1937 Mildred married Harry Carter, and resided in Smeaton, Saskatchewan, where her 2 sons where born. The family moved to Vancouver in 1942, and in 1946 relocated to McConnell Creek where they built a filling station and general store with an adjoining house. Mildred was well known in the area for her work at the store and co-producing an advertising magazine. In 1959 Mildred and Harry separated and she moved to Nicomen Island, near Mission. In 1964, along with her husband, Grant Worth, Mildred purchased 10 acres of property in Nicomen Island. Mildred enjoyed living in her home overlooking the Fraser River, and this was always her special place. Her writing skills of poems, genealogy and religious information were appreciated by all she met, including her friends and staff at Menno Home.
Mildred spent the last year and a half at the Menno Home in Abbotsford, and the family thanks the staff and nurses at Menno Home for all their special care and loving attention, especially during the last few days.
