It is with great sadness we lost the best Papa, Dad, husband, brother and friend to move onto his next life where there is no more pain and to be reunited with family and friends that have gone before him.
The greatest joys in his life were his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Lukas, Jonah and Sarah. Upon retirement he was able to spend time with them at our summer home on the lake where he taught them to fish, boat and just have a lot of fun.
Many happy memories were made with his wife Helen of 36 years and children Trisha, Jodene, Rhonda, Lanine (Roberto), Kimberly (Steve) sister Loma (Rick) and family, as well as many cousins in Abbotsford.
Mel was born in Edmonton and raised in Coaldale, Alberta until graduating at which time he moved to Abbotsford where he and his father opened the Big-O-Tire store on South Fraser Way. At 50 years of age he retired. During Mel's 31 years in business he also became President of Big-O-Tire Canada
and was instrumental in bringing Big-O-Tire Canada together with Big-OTire USA.
Mel's fun times were with the Rod and Gun Club,Men's Club and he enjoyed The Vintage Car Club with his 1970 Chevy Chevelle. Good times were spent throughout the valley at car shows. He also spent many hours playing bridge and crib with friends.
Mel was a very gentle, generous soul and his moto was 'you have to give to get'.
Mel was predeceased by his father and mother Paul Loewen and Elizabeth Loewen (Martens) and sister Linda Zacharias as well as aunts and uncles.
I would like to thank our wonderful, caring neighbours for being here for us as well as the doctors and medical staff who took such great care of him.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
