Mavis Mae McAllister (nee Horn) passed away peacefully in the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC December 3, at the age of 83, with husband Robert and family at her side. Mavis and Robert, married 60 years have a loving family; daughter Wendy Harris; son in law Michael, granddaughters Beth and Julia; daughter Lynda Bulloch; son in law Thomas, grandson Robert, his wife Stacey, great grandson Harrison and grandson Cam, and son William McAllister. Mavis loved her family dearly, she was considered the “family kin-keeper.” Surviving her are sister Shirley Ann, cousins Doreen and Lloyd, and many much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended families. She is predeceased by her parents Marjorie and Hugh Horn, and her brother Keith Horn.

Always sharing her gifts of fabric arts, cooking, gardening, arts & culture and entertaining; Mavis was known as someone who demonstrated a work ethic in all capacities. Years at the fishing camp and family cabin on Lake of the Woods, Ontario provided priceless family memories. She and Rob raised their family in River Heights, Winnipeg before semi-retiring to Abbotsford, B.C. They enjoyed golfing together and made many good friends with this activity. No matter where they lived, friends and family were Mavis' life. She loved and actively participated in every community she called home. She was active in the United Church Women. The Abbotsford - Mission Chamber of Commerce named her woman of the year in 1994, after she helped set up the first annual Chamber booth at the Abbotsford Airshow. Beyond the Chamber, she volunteered for the Matsqui-Abbotsford Arts Council, the 1995 Western Canada Summer Games and the Adopt-A-Bock program. She was also on the 'Communities in Bloom' committee in 2003. Always busy, always interested in others. At the family's request a private celebration of Mavis' life will be held at a later date.
