Three months short of 100 years Matti left us peacefully on Sept. 22. He was ready for his final journey and satisfied with his long and varied life. He was born in Raahe, Finland Dec 17, 1921.
As a young man he sailed the seas of the world and rose to captain his own ship. In 1957 he decided with his wife Riitta to settle in Canada and raise their three sons in BC.
In Canada he worked on the waterfront, still with ships. He retired in 1984 and spent 37 years in retirement traveling and enjoying his life.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years and survived by his three sons Olli (Sandi), Henry (Janina) and Andy and three grandchildren Katrina, Lucas (Tatjana), Paul (Kim), as well as four great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those left behind to mourn.
