Mary Thiessen (Reimer) passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord and Saviour on May 23, 2006. Mary was born March 18, 1926 to Maria and Johann Durksen in Rosonart, Southern Russia. In 1943, with her parents and her sister (Tina), they fled west to Germany, where they were accepted by a German farmer and stayed and worked for him. In 1946 she married Peter Reimer. Their first son Helmut was born in October of 1946. In 1948, Mary, with her husband and son set out for Tiege, Paraguay, South America. Her second son Willy was born in 1949 and her third son Rudy in 1953. In 1956, Mary along with her husband and three sons immigrated to Canada. They purchased a farm in Abbotsford, BC where Mary spent endless hours hoeing, pruning and picking strawberries and raspberries, while raising her family. The farm was sold in 1976.
She was predeceased by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother in infancy, her sister Tina, granddaughter Brenda and in 1990 her husband Peter.
She remarried in 1992 to Willy Thiessen, enlarging the family with three additional sons and three daughters. With Willy also having a son by the name of Willy, she now had three Willy’s. She leaves to mourn her husband Willy, her children Helmut (Delila), Willy (Kathy), Rudy (Hilda), her stepchildren Ingrid (Bill), Peter (Nancy), Willy (Dickie), Helen (John), Ricky (Rob), Henry(Diana) as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved dearly and she will be missed by them all.
A viewing will be held on Mon. May 29, 2006 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Tues. May 30, 2006 at 1:00 pm from Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church. Interment to follow at Maclure Rd. Cemetery. A fellowship meal will follow.
