Mary Ruth (Ashdown) COLLINS

December 17, 2004

With great sadness we announce the passing of our Beloved Mother Mary Ruth (Ashdown) Collins on December 17, 2004.

Mary was born July 20, 1922 in Okotoks, Alberta the fourth of seven children.

She married George Ashdown in August of 1944 raising four children together, Paulette (Ron) McCabe, Lynne Andersen, Mark (Tami) Ashdown and Merrilee Collins.

Mary’s greatest love was for children; she was a teacher and ran her own kindergarten. Her desire to help children took her in another direction. Mary worked for Langley Family Services where she had the opportunity to work one on one with families. Later in life Mary was asked to start a Transition House in Vancouver. Her love and compassion helped mend many broken hearts.

After retirement Mary dedicated her time to gardening, animals and grandchildren. At 70 years old she fell in love and married Edward Collins, becoming a step-mom to Jim, Mickey, Lani, and Laura Collins. Her decade with Ed was such a happy time, filled with travel and active participation with the Brookswood Seniors. We are happy they are together again.

Mary will always be remembered for her love for her family, children and animals, her fabulous cooking and her kind nature.

A small family service will take place in Alberta at a later date.

We would like to thank the staff of Hallmark Assisted Living, Maplewood House and MSA Hospital for your love and caring for our mother.

We would also like to thank the staff of Home Society, Bonnie Laing, Debby Hunter, Elizabeth and Brian Morgan, Sue Bridger, Lorin Collins and Austin Collins you all went “Beyond the Call of Duty” to support us during this difficult time.
