PARKES, Mary ~ 1922 ~ 2014. The family of Mary Parkes is sad to announce her passing April 29, 2014 at the age of 92 at Piccadilly Care Centre in Salmon Arm, BC.
She is survived by her loving husband John of 65 years, sons Garry (Becky) of Winnipeg, Ron (Judy) of Mission, daughter Bonnie Peterson (Roy) of Salmon Arm, grandsons Brian (Erin), Greg (Sarah), Brad (Emily), Andrew, Bryn and Kean as well as 7 great grandchildren.
Born in Alberta she was the last surviving member of her family of 5 brothers & 2 sisters.
In 1947 she boarded a train to Matsqui where berry pickers were needed. She met John Parkes, a dairy farmer from Silverdale at a dance at Matsqui Hall. They married in 1948. The farm was sold in 1972 they retired to their new home. She enjoyed her large vegetable and flower gardens and traveled extensively. In 2006 they moved to Salmon Arm. In 2011 they moved to Piccadilly Care Centre.
A small family service was held in Salmon Arm on May 2, 2014.
