Mary Ellen REMPEL (McINTOSH)

Mary Ellen was born on July 21, 1928 in Bestville, Sask. to parents Alexander and Mabel (Johnston) McIntosh of Hazlet, Sask. Her childhood was spent in Hazlet. Mary Ellen graduated from nursing school in Red Deer during April, 1949 and worked as a licensed practical nurse. She attended Canadian Nazarene College in Red Deer and received a diploma on May 28, 1954. While at Canadian Nazarene College, she met Rev. George Rempel of Abbotsford, B.C., and they were married on June 7, 1957 in Red Deer.

George and Mary Ellen pastered Nazarene churches in Brownvale, Armstrong, Drumheller, Camrose, Port Alberni, Ukiah (California), McKinleyville (California), Lancaster (California), Whitehorse, and Port Alberni. George and Mary Ellen retired in Abbotsford. George passed away on April 3, 2002. Mary Ellen resided at Menno Hospital in Abbotsford until her death on October 20, 2006.

Mary Ellen Rempel is survived by her three children. Terrence Rempel, MD, MPH married to Anni Brandt, MD in Spokane, WA, Pattilyn married to James Shadduck in Portland, Oregon, and Darlene married to Greg Johnston in Irvine, AB. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Christina Johnston, Alana Johnston, Rebecca Johnston, Nikki Johnston, Trenton Shadduck, and Morgan Shadduck. She is also survived by her brother Morrison McIntosh of Hazlet, Sask.

A memorial service for Mary Ellen Rempel will be held at the Abbotsford Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 pm.
