Mary Edna HOUGHTON

April 29, 2005

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Mary Edna Houghton (nee: Carroll).

Mary passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2005 at Mission Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her sons Jim, Jack and Gerry (Sue); grandchildren Clayton (Gillian), Jeff (Sonya) and Jason (Desi); great-grandchildren Cole, Kyle, Genevieve and Jaden; brothers Walter and Les (Harriet) Carroll; and Sandra, beloved friend, mother of Jason and Scott. Mary was predeceased by Ralph, her husband of 52 years; brother Rob; sister Margaret; and grandson Scott.

A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home, Mission, BC.

Mary was born on July 15, 1915 in Davidson, Saskatchewan. Her childhood on the Prairies growing up in a pioneering farm family left her with a deep and enduring love of family, nature and gardening. Mary never stopped enjoying the outdoors, and up to her very last days with us, took great pleasure in working with her son Jim on his land. Her very early decision to become a school teacher arose out of her insatiable curiosity and eagerness to help others learn about, and explore the world; something she herself never stopped doing. She was a passionate lawn bowler, curler and seamstress, as well as ardent fan of "The Young and the Restless." As a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary will be remembered for her larger-than-life spirit, integrity, compassion and strength.

"We love you."
