In Loving Memory -
It is with sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Mary Ann "Rey" Riches (nee Latrimouille), on
October 7, 2024, in the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 92 years.
Rey is survived by her five sons, Ted, Jon (Margeret), James (Cathy), Robert (Tina), and David (Colleen).
Rey was a clever, stylish, fun-loving person that liked to laugh. She was a caring and kind Grandmother to her thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
When Gran came to visit, she always came with a gift for the children and took time to hold or play with the little ones. Rey was predeceased by her loving husband John
Riches.
Rey, the youngest of three was born to Della and Rene Latrimouille in Kamloops, BC. She had a pleasant childhood, was much loved by her parents and had many small-town adventures with her cousins and friends. Rey attended St. Ann's Academy in Kamloops, an all-girls school and shared many sweet funny stories about her friends and the nuns who taught the classes and looked after them.
Rey and John met in Kamloops and married on June 17th, 1954, where they lived for a short time before first settling in Mission and then in Abbottsford, BC, where they raised their five boys. The small town was a good place to raise her family, grow a garden, develop long lasting friendships and volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary. In 1979 Rey and John retired to McKinnley Landing where they built their dream home, a place for them to enjoy and their family to visit. Later, they moved to Kamloops, then to Parksville and finally they returned to Kelowna in 1998.
In Kelowna Rey resumed her volunteer work for the Hospital Auxiliary at KGH and worked in the Centennial Mercantile. Volunteering was important to her, and she spent
40 years volunteering in total for the Abbotsford and Kelowna Hospital Auxiliaries. Rey joined a bowling league and enjoyed daily walks in the morning with her friends. Rey
loved music, interesting literature and great food. She loved socializing with her many friends and was always out for lunch or throwing a good party.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Charles Garnier Parish (3645 Benvoulin Road in Kelowna on Saturday, November 16 at 11 am., with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of
flowers please donate to the Hospital Auxiliary at Kelowna General Hospital.
