REMPEL, Maria
Maria Rempel was born in Osterwick, Russia on January 27, 1929 and grew up with her parents, two sisters and five brothers. While growing up in Russia, Maria with her sister Lisa left their town with the outbreak of the Second World War. Having evaded the Soviet Army, Maria immigrated to Canada in 1948. Shortly after her arrival, she married Johann Rempel in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1950. Maria looked after the family and was the main family caregiver while her husband served and retired from the Canadian Armed Forces. During her life time Maria not only cared for her family but enjoyed square dancing, music, baking & travelling. Maria graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a certificate in baking. She was also well recognized by her peers for her outstanding seamstress skills which she acquired as an apprentice in Germany. Maria has been living the last twenty one years in Abbotsford, British Columbia. She became ill on June 27th and peacefully passed away in her sleep on June 18, 2015.
Maria is survived by her 2 sons Siegfried and Wolfgang, her daughter-in-laws Terry and Lynn her brothers Rudi and Gerhart, sister Rosa Linda, her grandson Caleb, granddaughter Lauree, and great-grandsons Jade and Justin.
Funeral Service will be held today, Friday, June 26, 2015 at 11:00 am at Clearbrook MB Church, 2719 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MCC would be appreciated.
