Maria "Dolly" was born in Saskatchewan and moved with her parents to a farm in Aldergrove in 1946. She started working for Canada Post in Vancouver in her early 20s and transferred to Abbotsford in the 1980s. It was in Abbotsford that she met and married her husband Eric. Shortly after her retirement from Canada Post, Dolly and Eric moved to Calgary. She was an expert knitter as most of her family can attest to as they all have some of her handiwork. She had a fabulous stamp collection and was a gracious host to many and especially foreign exchange students.
Dolly will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband Eric, step-daughter Barb, brothers Dan (Kay), Phil (Judy), and Chris; sisters Violet (David) Webb, Ivy (Ray) Rempel, Loriane (Grant) Frewing, and Wendy (Wayne) Williams, grandchildren Joshua and Matthew, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents David and Elisabeth Peters. For the last number of years Dolly and Eric have been wonderfully supported by the Trinity Baptist Church in Calgary. Dolly went to be with her Lord on July 17, 2005 in Calgary, AB.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 22 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC. Visitation will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home on Thursday, July 21 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made in Dolly’s memory to the Cancer Research Society.
