Marguerite ABBOTT

September 30, 2014

ABBOTT; Marguerite Evelyn

It is with profound sadness that Marguerite's family announces her passing on September 30, 2014 at the age of 96 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Edmonton, AB. She was born on May 7, 1918 in Mission, BC and grew up on Nicomen Island - the eldest daughter of Fred and Violet Brautigam. Following high school Marguerite graduated in 1941 from St. Joseph's Hospital in Victoria and began working as a Registered Nurse before leaving the nursing field to raise a family with husband Ray Abbott, who predeceased her in June 2011. If the fish were running Mom could often be found along with her brothers and sisters at the Wingdam in Deroche. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing, playing cards and geneology. Ray and Marguerite were married for 69 years and farmed for 50+ years on Nicomen Island before moving to Mission where they resided for 3 years before enjoying the Okanagan for 3 years. They eventually relocated to Sherwood Park, AB in 2009 to live with their daughter Judy and her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Mickey (Mary) of Enderby, BC; Larry (Sue) of Berwick, NS; Ted (Mary) of Kamloops, BC; Sherry (Bill) Blancher of Balfour, BC; Steve (Inga) of Lavington, BC; Carol (Paul Kroeker) of Chilliwack; Judy (Udo) Weiss of Sherwood Park, AB; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Gord (Joyce) Brautigam of Mission, BC; Martin Brautigam of Burnaby, BC and brother-in-law Les Dainard of Mission, BC and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Donald, Ken, Ted, Bud (Jack) and sisters Doreen, Dorothea and June. No service at her request. A family gathering to be held at a later date to celebrate her life.
