JOHNSON, Lorraine Rose Marie(nee Moret)

With her family at her side, our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on March 16, 2010 in her 79th year. Predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Alan; she will be dearly missed by her children: Jon (Pam), Catherine (Dan Miller), Susan (Darwin) Baerg, Janice (Michael Smith) and Andrew (Lynda Brousseau) and grandchildren: JJ, Caitlyn, Ryan, Ailsa, Erin, Hayley, Will, Jake, Taylor, Marcus and Connor. She is also survived by sisters: Yvonne Roblin, Laverne Kinney and Millie (Phil) Larocque, brother Fernand; and brother-in-law Bruce (Marjorie) Johnson. She was predeceased by brothers Lorne and Albert. Mom was born June 18, 1930 in Abbotsford, BC to Mildred Minaker and Fernand Moret. In 1949 she left Abbotsford to attend St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1953. "Mortes", as she was known, made friendships that have endured since. She graduated from UBC with her BSN in 1977. She worked as a Community Care Nurse in Coquitlam, moved to Vernon in 1987 and continued her career in Kelowna, retiring in 1995.

Mom spent many hours in her garden and walking her dog, Zoe. With her sister (and best friend) Laverne, Mom skied, river-rafted, hiked, travelled and treasure hunted at local garage sales.

Shortly after the death of our Dad in 2003, Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. As the disease progressed, Mom lost her independence and we slowly lost our mother, grandmother and friend.

We will always remember her passion, sense of humour, laughter, compassion and unconditional love. Mom was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren, a source of continuous pride and never-ending joy. We will cherish our memories of lively family dinners and lazy days at the lake. A heart-felt thanks to the staff of Shamrock Lane at Maplewood House in Abbotsford for their compassionate and exceptional care. A Celebration of Mom's life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC. Tributes and condolences may be left at
