Lorraine BENNETT

March 24, 2009

BENNETT, Lorraine Mildred (nee Le Poidevin)

It is with great sadness we announce Lorrie's passing on March 24, 2009 at Maplewood House in Abbotsford at age 101 years. Born in Vancouver in 1908 she lived for over 85 years in the Mission and Abbotsford areas. She was Canada's oldest polio survivor contracting the disease at the early age of eighteen months. This handicap did not impede Lorrie's joy of living and she contributed greatly in charity work throughout many decades, a feat that was recognized when she received the Mission Pathfinder's award in 2007. Predeceased by her husband Dick in 1994 she is survived by her daughter Jan Coleman (Robert) Langley, B.C., and son Vern (Heather) Toronto, ON. and by grandchildren Rosslynn (Mark) Denton, Shannon Coleman, Patrick Coleman, Jonathan (Wendy) Bennett, David Bennett, Peter (Renee) Bennett, Haley Bennett, Nicolee Tattersall, and Blain Tattersall. She is also blessed with six great grandchildren; Chelsea, Ella, Thomas, Andrew, Ivy and Samuel. A service will be held at Trinity Memorial United Church of Canada, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, BC , on March 27, 2009 at 2:00 o'clock. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.remembering.ca. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Post Polio Awareness & Support Society of BC (PPASS) at #102 - 9775 4th Street, Sidney, BC V8L 2Z8.
