Friesen; Lorena
June 19, 1917 ~ January 15, 2009
A prairie settler
Lorena (Buller) Friesen was born to David Buller and Tina Drieger on their farm on the Saskatchewan prairie near Drake. Lorena was only 1 1/2 years old when her father died of the 1918 influenza pandemic, leaving her mother to raise ten children and carve out a living on the harsh prairie they called home. In 1935, after years of drought, Lorena and family moved to Armstrong B.C. where she married Henry Friesen. Henry and Lorena moved to Vancouver B.C. where they adopted a son, Terry Friesen. They moved to Los Angeles, Calif. for 20 years before returning to Canada.
Everyone who knew Lorena marveled at her kindness, good humor, and her fetching smile with a cute wink. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends….we have lost an angel.
The family would like to especially thank the wonderful caring people at Menno home who enriched her life for the three years she lived there.
A memorial service was held Sunday, January 18th.
