Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Allister and Louise (Fraser) Ormiston, Hopewell, Nova Scotia. Survived by husband, Ross, sons, Paul, and Kelly (Della), sister, Janet Bain, many nieces and nephews, and grandson Noah and granddaughter, Skye (Cooper).
Lois received her early education in the three-room school in Hopewell and completed high school at West Pictou District High School. She received her B.Sc. (H Ec.) from Mt. Allison University and took her dietetic internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Upon completion of the internship, she and Ross with their son Paul moved to Powell River, BC where Lois substituted in the junior and senior high schools. The family then moved to Victoria where Ross qualified as a welder in BC and Lois worked as a clinical dietitian. With the arrival of their second son Kelly, they moved to Surrey, BC. There Lois did both clinical and administrative positions at Surrey Memorial. Other positions included manager positions for contract management companies and completing an M.B.A. from City University in Seattle, USA.
A member of the Canadian and BC Dietetic Association Lois served as President of the BC association prior to a B.C. College of Dietitians and Nutritionists being formed. A member of the United Church of Canada, there will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Parkinson Foundation. Cremation will be followed by burial in Millbrook Cemetery in Nova Scotia. The family would like to thank Dr. Sarah Culkin for her excellent care for Lois.
