NELSON Lloyd Henry. June 8, 1929 ~ Dec. 3, 2012. Born on a farm in Alberta, Lloyd moved to Mission, BC with his family when he was twelve years old. An indefatigable worker he spent most of his career as a heavy- duty mechanic in remote logging operations on the coasts of Vancouver Island and the BC mainland. Lloyd met his wife, Virginia, in the village of Ucluelet; they were married in 1950 on Meares Island in Clayoquot Sound. They raised four children, Richard, Carole, Catherine, and Laura, in Ucluelet until 1959 when they moved their family to Mission. A gifted storyteller, Lloyd drew on his life on the farm, his boyhood in Mission, and his adventures in the camps. His stories and conversation were peppered with laughter, wit, and a penchant for puns. His contagious laugh and sense of humour found him many friends to whom he was kind, generous, and always willing to help. His insatiable curiosity, passion for the natural world, and his fascination for how things worked served him well in his last years when he was very sick. Always thinking, he was never bored while he struggled with the merciless pain of bone cancer. He thought of his family first and loved us all. He was a great husband, a fabulous dad, and Papa to grandchildren, great grandchildren and recently, a great-great grandchild. He was an honourable and good man and we'll miss him. A celebration of life will be held in the new year. Date to be determined. Donations may be made to the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission.
