Lilly Annie Harms was born on August 18, 1929 in Chilliwack to Heinrich and Elizabeth Harms. Lilly was the only child. She went to elementary school in Yarrow and graduated
from Sharon Mennonite Collegiate followed by a year at Elim Bible School. After this, she completed her high school senior matriculation by correspondence.
In 1956 Lilly moved to Vancouver and was employed by the Hudson's Bay Company for nine years in the Credit Department. With a goal of becoming a medical laboratory technician, she took two years of university science courses by night school while working at the Bay. In 1965 she began working as a medical technician in the Provincial Laboratory in Disease Control. In 1976 Lilly became qualified as a Technician in Bacteriology. She worked in the Provincial Division of Laboratories for about 20 years.Due to health concerns Lilly took an early retirement. Lilly's faith in Jesus as her Savior was a central part of her life. She became a member of the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church and after moving to Vancouver was
active in the Culloden Mennonite Brethren Church. She especially found teaching in Sunday School fulfilling. Following her retirement, Lilly hosted home stay students from Japan and organized many social events for these students. In 1998 Lilly moved to Clearbrook and joined the Clearbrook MB Church.
Because of failing health, Lilly moved into the Menno Home senior care facility in 2011. She was very grateful for the excellent care she received from the staff.
During her last years she appreciated the companionship and support of the staff of Compassion Care who spent a number of hours with her each week. On August 28 Lilly Harms passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord. She has no surviving close relatives.
