LOEWEN — Lili passed into the presence of her Lord on September 6, 2004. She was the beloved grandmother of Rudolph Penner, Karl (Cindy) Penner, Lili (Ray) Krause. Also survived by great grandchildren Luke, Aaron, and Eli and by her son-in-law Peter (Hilda) Penner. Born on July 26, 1910 in a Mennonite settlement in southern Russia, Lili was the first of four children born to David and Anna Harder. In 1929, she married Jacob Goossen and they escaped with their young daughter from Russia to China in 1931. Four more children were born in China, although three did not survive childhood. Her husband was taken captive and sent back to Russia without ever seeing his youngest son. Following a journey of 17 years through China, Lili immigrated to Yarrow, B.C. with her son and daughter in 1948 and later moved to Vancouver in 1954. She married the late Abram Loewen in 1975 and moved to Clearbrook, B.C. Through the untold hardship, her faith in God remained unwavering. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 10 at 11:00 a.m. in Clearbrook MB Church, 2719 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford.
