Lena Johanna
Lena deVos passed away Tuesday, December 5, at 91 years of age, after a long illness. She was born in Amsterdam on December 29, 1914 the second of seven children. Lena worked very hard at a young age and after her father died she provided for her entire family.
When Lena married Jan deVos on May 25, 1950 they both had children from their previous marriÂages. July 11 of the same year they immigrated to Canada taking Lena’s children along. The settled in Abbotsford and soon had three more children together while they carved out a life dairy farming. In 1969 they settled in Deep Creek.
Lena was a faithful servant of God and an active church member. She loved animals, playing cards and was a gifted knitter.
Lena was predeceased by her husband Jan in 1996, but is survived by their loving children: Elly (Jan) Poort, Frans deVos, Jane (Lou) Pugh, Lena (Fred) Simonson, Joe (Judy) Smoes, John deVos, Herb (Rommie) deVos and Marie (Dan) ÂvanDalfsen. To her 26 grandÂchildren and 16 great grandÂchildren, Nana will be remembered as a squirrel and bird tamer with mixed Dutch-English speech and Freshie in the fridge.
We, her family, would like to thank the staff at Oakside Manor for taking such good care of her, especially this last year.
A ceremony of celebration and remembrance was held December 9. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home.
