Laurie SHAW

SHAW; Laurie Douglas

Laurie Douglas unexpectedly passed away into the presence of his Lord on December 31, 2016.  He was 66. Though born in Vancouver, BC, most of Laurie’s formative years were spent in Winnipeg, Manitoba when his family relocated there when he was a little tike.  After high school graduation, Laurie’s adventurous spirit, unparalleled work ethic and love of learning took him on a journey of employment and education opportunities across North America. Along the way, he met Patti and knew immediately life would be much richer with her by his side throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Missouri, Louisiana and back to British Columbia.  Married in 1975, Laurie and Patti were both kind, generous, smart and funny, and otherwise had very little in common except their faith, love for each other and their two daughters.  They loved a good disagreement, saving their most intractable disputes for the preparation of the holiday turkey each Christmas. Laurie was a terrific husband, father and papa to his three grandkids, ever ready to fix things, share wise and thoughtful advice, and be an encouraging cheerleader.  Papa gave the tightest hugs, found the perfect gifts and always made time to look at every project.  He loved us and we loved him back.  Dear Lord it was hard to give Laurie back, but we know he is treading the streets of gold. Laurie is survived by his wife Patti, daughters Charis and Rachel, son-in-law Randy, grandkids Mitchell, Patria and Mallory, and a large extended family.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Christian Life Community Church, 35131 Straiton Road, Abbotsford, BC on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 3:30 p.m.  Donations to the Abbotsford Hospice Society in lieu of flowers with our sincere thanks.
