January 6, 1930 - May 24, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth (Ken) Baker at the remarkable age of 95.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Margaret, his daughters Kathleen and Heather (Mark), and his grandchildren Taylor, Shelby, Chelsea and Colton.
Ken was born in Somerton, Somerset, U.K. to Herb and Eda Baker. While attending school, Ken developed an interest in making and flying model aircraft (aeromodelling). He spent 18 months with the National Service - Royal Air Force - before pursuing an Engineering Degree at London University where he signed up for Ballroom Dance Classes and met Margaret (Peggy) Tresize - they were married in November1957 at Ealing Green Baptist Church. Only a few months later, Ken and Peggy immigrated to Canada from Liverpool England aboard CP's Empress of Britain. Ken settled into employment with Canadair and dedicated personal time to overseeing the construction of a family home in Beaurepaire (part of Beaconsfield on the West Island of Montreal) which he, Peggy and their two daughters - Kathleen (Kate) and Heather - called home for 20 years. Following his work with Canadair, Ken shifted to operations for Unica Research, then for Redpath Sugar and, ultimately, for Canada Starch Co. / Zymaize in London Ontario. After 13 years in London, Ontario, Ken and Peggy moved to Abbotsford B.C. where they enjoyed a retirement lifestyle but kept busier than ever with the church and numerous interest groups and activities; Ken and Peggy took up residence in Hallmark on The Park in 2020.
Throughout his life, Ken was very dedicated to the church and the choirs and congregations of each church that they became members of. Very notably, Ken was instrumental in the planning, funding and construction of Calvin Presbyterian Church - a very sizable undertaking.
We are thankful for the care and support provided by the staff at Hallmark Baptist Housing and Abbotsford Regional Hospital as Ken's health declined.
There will be a Memorial Service to reflect on Ken's full life on Saturday, June 21st at 10:30am at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 33911 Hazelwood Ave, Abbotsford.
Ken will be forever loved and sorely missed - may he rest in peace.
