WALL; Katie

1925 ~ 2016


Katie Wall (née Sawatzky), born on December 2, 1925, in Nieder Chortitza, Ukraine, passed away quietly and peacefully on December 8, 2016, in her home in Abbotsford, BC. Family was extremely important to Katie and she looked forward to family gatherings where she could visit with cousins, nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters. Katie was a founding and very active member of the EbenEzer Mennonite Church in Abbotsford, involved in the women's auxiliary there and spent many hours volunteering for the MCC. She enjoyed farming, traveling, gardening, reading, music, needlepoint and fitness at Apollo Athletic Club. She loved her family unconditionally and lived her faith every day. She is predeceased by her husband Jacob, and survived by her children, Gary, Alfred (Eilidh), Betty, Bruno (Jane) and her much loved grandchildren, Stephanie, Angus, and Stuart, her sister Irene Bergen, her brother John Sawatzky (Elvira) and her sister-in-law Ann Sawatzky. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. A private family burial service will be held at Maclure Road Mennonite Cemetery at 11:30 am on December 15, 2016. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm at EbenEzer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor Street in Abbotsford, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bakerview Music Academy, #301 - 32330 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, BC  V2T 1X1 or the Mennonite Central Committee www.mcccanada.ca.
