Surrounded by most of her family, Katie Neufeld slipped from this earth into heaven in the early hours of September 9, 2003. Her sudden departure leaves a huge hole.
Katie Neufeld's life revolved around family, friends, hard work and her Christian faith.
She was born June 5, 1925 in Schoenhorst, Ukraine and lived there till 1943 when her family fled to Germany where she worked as a farmhand. In 1948, her family uprooted again -- to Canada, by boat, train, and bus, residing in Chilliwack, Kamloops, and Vancouver, BC. She married Jake Neufeld in 1951, and they moved to a farm in Clearbrook.
Our mother and Oma lived her life quietly, diligently, and always with dignity. She exemplified loyalty, generosity and decency. She was preceded by her parents, Elias (1981) & Aganeta Bergen (1986), and her husband Jake (1982). She leaves behind three children: Hildegarde (John) Toews; Walter (Elsie) Neufeld; Erwin (Ruth) Neufeld: 8 grandchildren; Lara Toews, Daniel Neufeld, Karina Toews, Michael Neufeld, Matthew Neufeld, Elena Toews, Paul Neufeld, Rachel Neufeld; four siblings, many nieces and nephews and friends.
A public viewing will take place Thursday 7 - 8 pm at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor Ave., Abbotsford, Funeral Service, Friday, September 12th, at 10 am at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church. Interment at Maclure Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to MCC will be gratefully accepted.
