Kathleen (Kay) Ellefson, 97, of Edmonton, Alberta, formerly of Abbotsford, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2020 at the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre in Edmonton.
She was born in 1923 in Alberta's Coal Branch, where she spent her formative years. In the 1940's Kay and her husband, Walter, moved to the west coast of British Columbia. Walter passed away in 1960, leaving Kay with two young children to raise, which she did, showing everyone around her the strength and compassion she had from within. She went back to school to better prepare herself for the workforce, and ultimately provide for her family.
In 1975, she moved to Abbotsford and finally retired there in 1978.
Hardworking, cheerful and always willing to "pitch in", Kay, was active in the community (square dancing) and was always surrounded by a large circle of friends, who loved her cooking and baking.
In 2013, she moved to a retirement lodge in Edmonton to be nearer to her family, and then because of failing health moved into a long-term care facility in 2018.
Kay is survived by her sons Martin (Vivian) and Grant (Judy), grandchildren Jenine, Brett, Colleen and Lee and great grandson Kade.
Kay's Celebration of Life will be a private gathering for family members.
