Katherine (Kay) WIEBE

January 21, 2006

WIEBE, Katherine (Kay) passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 21, 2006 at her home surrounded by family members. Kay was born August 15, 1914 in Alexandrodar, Kuban, South Russia to Abram and Anna (Stobbe) Wiebe. During her early childhood she enjoyed living close to both sets of grandparents, cousins and friends. In 1925 the family immigrated to Canada and settled in Hochfeld, Manitoba. In 1935 they moved to a farm at Poplar Point, Manitoba. Continued hard times caused them to relocate to Yarrow, BC in 1944 where they settled on a small fruit farm. Kay accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in her teens, was baptized September 17, 1944 and became a member of the Yarrow M.B. Church. She remained a committed member of this church until her death. She took up raspberry farming with the family for many years. Kay was family oriented and took over most of the responsibility for her parents when their health began to fail. She loved her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and found great pleasure in hosting family and friends. Kay lovingly and generously gave of herself to others who had a need – was it driving her sisters to school or giving someone a ride to an appointment, sending parcels to needy relatives in Russia, visiting shut-ins or helping someone financially and countless other deeds of kindness. In 1995 Kay and her sisters relocated to Abbotsford where she enjoyed making many new friends and socializing in Garden Park coffee shop. Kay is predeceased by both her parents, four siblings who died in infancy, and her brother John and Mary Friesen. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her siblings: Martha, Annie, Erma, Mary and John Unger; her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews: Lois (Erv) Warkentin, Logan and Clayton; Mark (Sheryl) Unger, Shauna and Travis; Eunice (Stan) Kroeker, Vanessa and Jason; Paul (Kathryn) Unger, Nathanael and Hannah; David (Marg) Friesen and family; Anita (Gordon) Bremner and family as well as numerous relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 27 at 7-8 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home with prayers starting at 7 pm. A graveside service will take place at the Yarrow Cemetery on Saturday, January 28 at 10:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am from Yarrow MB Church. The family wishes to thank the Valley Home Support workers and the Home Care nurses for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to MCC would be appreciated.
