Kathe (nee Dietrich) WAGNER

July 30, 2007

Kathe (nee Dietrich) Passed away peacefully in her home in Whonnock, on July 30, 2007. Kathe was born on March 20, 1926 in Tapiau, East Prussia, Germany, which is today Gwardeisk in Russia. She attended boarding school (Senior Secondary School) in Lubeck until late 1944, when the Russian front was approaching. 18 years old, she took her mother and younger brother on a 1000 km march from Pillau to Warnemuende in winter, with hardly anything else but the clothes they were wearing. Due to her common sense, they made it to safety. She married Dr. Gerhard Wagner, and both of them immigrated to Canada. In Coquitlam, BC she became famous as a master weaver. Garments and blankets were outstanding in color and design. The couple moved to Whonnock in Maple Ridge, BC, here again they were soon well known for their artistic and agricultural products, for musical evenings and for wonderful conversation with uncountable friends, from down to earth farm folks to intellectuals and well known business people in Vancouver. Visitors came non-stop to Kathe’s place. She was loyal, she was generous, she had a sensitive nature, but above all she was sincere.

Predeceased by her husband Gerhard, Kathe is survived and sadly missed by her brother Johannes Dietrich in Germany, and by her numerous friends and neighbors.

A celebration of Kathe’s life will be held at a later date.
