Justine Eleanor Ethier (nee Doyle), 88, passed away on April 19, 2018 at her home in Victoria, British Columbia surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born on June 1, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of three children to Robert and Grace Doyle.
Her father Robert died while she was an infant and the family moved to Sarnia in 1930 to be near extended family. In 1940 her mother Grace passed away and Justine and her siblings Mary and Fred were then raised by their Aunt Freda Wilkinson.
After graduation from high school Justine worked for Imperial Oil until she married the love of her life, Bill Ethier in 1952.
Justine and Bill were married for 60 years. The first 15 years of their marriage were spent in small town Ontario (Sarnia, Welland, and Brockville) where they began their family (Jim, Beth, Mary Anne and Tom), and made friends that they cherished for a lifetime.
In 1966 they took a chance on a transfer to Surrey, British Columbia, for Bill to take on manager responsibilities at a new TD Branch. Their youngest child, Bill, was born there in 1967.
Justine and Bill made many more lifelong friends, travelled extensively and bought a cabin on Osoyoos Lake that they treasured for the remainder of their life together. Justine enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, swimming, walking, telling scary stories, laughing, watching movies and spending time with her family and friends. Justine was a devout Catholic and volunteered tirelessly for the Catholic Church.
Justine is survived by her 5 children; son Jim (Digna) of Wenatchee, Washington; her daughter Beth (Allan) Hettle of Victoria; Mary Anne (Kevin) Ethier of Kamloops; Tom (Geneen) of Victoria, and Bill (Sarah) of Victoria, and her grandchildren, Andrew, David, Daniel, William, Colin, Katherine, Louise, Justine and Claire.
Justine was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Grace, her husband Bill, her brother Fred and sister Mary.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4049 Gordon Head Rd., Victoria, BC at 1:00 pm, May 5, 2018. Prayers will be the night before (May 4th) at 7:00 pm. The internment at Royal Oak Burial Park will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development & Peace or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
