Joyce will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted Mom, Auntie, Nana, sister and wife. She was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and moved to White Rock, BC at the age of 10. It was there that she grew up and married her high school sweetheart. In 1971, they moved to Abbotsford together with their two young sons where Joyce was a stay-at-home Mom volunteering much of her time at their boys' elementary, middle and senior high schools. In 1985, two sisters were added to the family, initially as foster children and later adopted. A few years later, Joyce stepped in to temporarily fill a vacant position at their church, The Salvation Army Cascade Community Church, and remained employed there for 19 years until she retired. However, she still continued to bake up to 140 cupcakes several times per year as recently as June of this year for Yale Senior Secondary where her son teaches and her grandkids attended. Joyce was always so full of life and laughter. She was selfless, thoughtful and always caring for others. She has left a tremendous void to a large extended family and circle of friends. She meant so much to so many and will live on in our hearts and minds forever. Joyce was a survivor who defied the odds in 2012 when she won her first battle with stage 4 cancer. As she said at the time, "I have to keep fighting for my grandkids". A new cancer appeared very recently and, unfortunately, was too aggressive for her. Although our hearts are broken, it is comforting to know that Joyce is at peace and surrounded by family and friends that have gone before her. Left to reflect on her life are her loving husband of over 53 years, David; children Dave (Cindy), Doug (Tracey), Tanya, and Amy (Matt); precious grandchildren Natalie, Julia and Jake; siblings Frank (Shirley), Bill (Pat) and Margaret. Joyce is predeceased by her siblings Jean and Barb. As Joyce said recently, family pets Louie, Lucy and Grayson will also miss her greatly. At Joyce's request, there will not be a formal funeral service or Celebration of Life, but instead a small family dinner which she always cherished. She also requested that those wishing to make a donation in her memory do so to BC Children's Hospital Foundation, (www.bcchf.ca) where her granddaughter was so well cared for following an accident. Special thanks to our family physician, Dr. John Chan, for his dedication to our family for over 30 years, and also the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at Abbotsford Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit that made Joyce's final days so peaceful.
