Joseph Octave Hormidas, “Joe" BLASCHEK

November 7, 2005

Joseph, born August 3, 1936, passed away peacefully at Mission, BC on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005.

Predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Joe was the beloved husband and best friend to his wife Irene. He leaves also his brother, Steve and his wife Rachelle; his sister Liz and her husband Ed Folk; stepchildren and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins in Manitoba and Ontario and many dear friends.

Joe was born in Sprague, Manitoba. The family moved to BC in 1953, to Peardonville, where they farmed on Defahr Rd. At the age of 17, he joined the navy with his brother Will and served a five year term as a cook on the HMCS Ontario. He was later based in Esquimalt and Aldergrove. Joe told many memorable stories of his adventure. He was a 43 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, most recently with Branch No. 265 in Aldergrove. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, Joe was a Life Member of the BC Wildlife Federation. In earlier years, he owned and flew a Cessna 180 float plane. Joe took great pride in having the neatest and greenest lawns in the neighbourhood and he loved to grow a vegetable garden.

Visitation for family and friends will be at First Memorial Funeral Services, 27555 31st Ave., Aldergrove, from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday, Nov. 13. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, Nov. 14 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Ave., Abbotsford. Interment to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Joe's favourite expression was "Take it easy, but take it." We shall never say goodbye, Joe, just "See you later".
