John Barmby passed away on April 1, 2025 at the age of 80 in Abbotsford, BC.
John grew up on his family's wheat farm in Lang, Saskatchewan and attended the University of Saskatchewan where he met his wife-to-be, Beverley. They married in 1967 and a few years later moved to Ontario, where John worked for Farm Credit Corporation and Bev as a public health nurse. For several years they combined these jobs with running a farm near Mildmay, Ontario. The family moved to Abbotsford in 1982; John traveled all over BC for Farm Credit and later changed careers to become a partner in Vic's Maytag and farm part-time in Saskatchewan.
A patient and private person, John was his own best company. Neighbours and friends recall him as a handyman who was always ready to lend a tool or his assistance, and a proud father and grandfather. In retirement he enjoyed Sudoku, audiobooks, and thrift stores (the latter perhaps a bit too much).
John is survived by his wife Beverley, sister Jean Martin, daughter Pauline (Charles McKenzie), son Greg (Kelly), and grandson Duncan McKenzie. No service by request.
